Pick-a-Pair/Photo Finish

Join us for an exciting weekend of roses and fun and education! On Friday night September 6th we will have a Hospitality Room for getting re-acquainted and planning your rose-entering strategy. Our Pick-A-Pair Challenge and Photo Finish will take place in the Show Room at 7 PM. We will have beverages and donations of other pot-luck goodies (please bring any food contributions you would like to donate!) to get us started on a fun rose weekend. Plan on storing your coolers and equipment in the prep room that will be chilled for our cold storage room.

All information regarding the specifics of the weekend is available for download here at The prep room will be open at 5 AM Saturday giving you plenty of time with your roses. Consider entering our new American Box challenge class in the show! There will be a soup and sandwich lunch buffet right down the hall from the show room. We have two educational afternoon speakers: Dr. Vera Krischik, Associate Professor of Entomology at the University of Minnesota speaking on the management of rose pests; and Bruce Barr, past president of GMRS, will share his insights into the life of Wisconsin’s own Eugene Boerner or “Papa Floribunda”. Rose Show tear down will occur at 4 pm after a short NCD Business Meeting.

To put everyone in a celebratory mood, the cocktail hour will begin at 6 PM followed by the dinner and awards banquet at 7 PM. We have three choices of entrees for dinner and rumor has it we may see beautiful and delicious rose cakes again at every table! The arrangements will be left up for surrounding beauty until after dinner. Our featured dinner speaker, Christian Bedard, director of research for Weeks Roses, will share his insights into what’s coming next in the world of rose hybridizing and development.

As always, bring any donations for a Silent Auction that will be open to 8:15 PM. All proceeds will benefit the District.

On Sunday, we have the opportunity to tour the new garden of the Vice-President of the American Rose Society, Diane Sommers. A Bloody Mary and Mimosa bar with brunch are included in your registration fee! You won’t want to miss it. Diane lives only 15 minutes away from the hotel, so everyone may stop before they head home.

Make your room reservation directly with the Holiday Inn Hotel Pewaukee-Milwaukee N14W24106 Tower Place, Waukesha, WI at (262) 506-6300. They have a block of rooms reserved for us at $114 ($126.65 with tax) per night. Please make your reservation by 7/22 to get the block room rate. We hope to see you all there!
